What is Imago Therapy and how does it work?
Imago Therapy is a form of psychological counseling that focuses on helping couples improve their relationships. It was developed by Dr. Harville Hendrix and his wife Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt in the 1980s. Imago Therapy works to help couples identify and understand the underlying issues in their relationship that are causing conflict. By understanding the origin of these issues, couples can work together to learn how to better communicate and resolve issues in a healthier manner. The goal of Imago Therapy is to help couples create a safe and secure relationship based on mutual respect, understanding and love.
How does a typical imago exercise work?
A typical Imago exercise involves a couple discussing a specific issue they are having trouble with. Each partner is then asked to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences on the issue. This can include sharing positive experiences, negative experiences, and anything else that may be relevant. After each partner has had their chance to express themselves, the couple can then use Imago Therapy techniques to help them gain a better understanding of each other’s perspective and work towards a resolution. This can include mirroring, validating, empathizing, and more.
What is Gottman Therapy?
Gottman Therapy is a form of couples therapy based on the research of Dr. John Gottman. It focuses on helping couples identify negative patterns in their relationship and develop skills to improve communication, decrease conflict and increase intimacy. Gottman Therapy seeks to help couples build a strong foundation for their relationship by identifying and addressing underlying issues, understanding each other’s needs, and learning how to have a healthy dialogue. The goal of Gottman Therapy is to help couples develop a better understanding of each other and create a loving, trusting, and lasting relationship.
